Here is some general rules, advice and thoughts for creating content to display publicly on businessanalysis.space

  • Legal stuff…
    • Any word you write, you are credited for. Feel welcome to include your name at the bottom of the author’s list (Confluence should do automatically, see technical formatting for how to add)
      • As a writer, you have ownership of your own writing, and can publish elsewhere/monetise elsewhere.
  • Style:
    • More perspectives is better, please peer review and invite others to make contributions!
    • Our tone should try to be “Friendly, Honest Professional”. This doesn’t need to be entirely formal, but should be written in the “I would probably write my work emails to my friendly colleague” style where you wouldn’t mind if it was leaked to the whole department. It will be public facing after all, and you may want to keep it as a writer’s credit!
    • For feature images, use the Unsplashed menu built in to WordPress so we don’t get in any legal trouble. They have plenty, and some sample ones are in the media library.
    • White-space is great, on wordpress feel free to use the spacer tool liberally to help break things up.
  • Avoids:
    • No clickbait titles.
    • Try not to use personal language in your writing e.g. I, We.
      • As a lot of this is advice, referring to the reader as “You” is fine.
    • Avoid swearing and expletives if possible
    • If you’re using an acronym, define it in the first instance
      • Exceptions to this rule include the bleedingly obvious like BA = Business Analyst, but in general try not to assume any knowledge
    • Do not share copyrighted content such as textbooks. No piracy links
    • Follow the other-platform guidelines, they’re a good general advice piece for life:
    • In general do not advertise goods/services, though we may recommend them from time to time.
    • Do not request or post content relating to financial advice, crypto currency or investment; we discuss Business Analysis practices not how to analyse the financial market.
    • Do not request advice relating to owning or running a business; we discuss Business Analysis practices not how to develop/build your own business. Contract BAs are welcome.
  • Technical formatting:
    • Finally, ending the post/article:
      • on Confluence use the template as it’ll add the below details for you.
      • On WordPress, there are pre-made blocks to use instead that can be updated across the entire site! Check reusable blocks section, then go #1, #2, your name, #3, Updated: [date here]
        • Example starts below:

We create and share this content to help give back to the community, and give aspiring Business Analysts the guidance we wish we had when we started out.
